| Artist's Statement
A goal in my photography is to document what I am seeing and at the same time to create something with visual appeal to continue to enjoy when the moment passes and the memory fades. Images are also used to help communicate what I have seen to others. While looking at a photograph is a generally a poor surrogate for reality, the act of freezing a moment in time often allows one to see more than what can be appreciated with the human eye alone. For example, the form a wave takes as it crashes on the shore or against a rock, the minute details in pattern and structure in a flower, insect, small animal, or the details in objects viewed in low light are all things that are difficult or impossible to grasp with the naked eye. My images tries to capture some of these nuances of life. I constantly fantasize about shooting better pictures and acquiring better equipment. I tend to shoot in aperture priority mode, and I capture images in RAW format. I process images files using Adobe Bridge and Photoshop CS2. My photographs try to capture what I have experienced or seen, and as such, they do not incorporate ‘creative’ changes in image editing software. I make only minor adjustments in levels, color balance, dynamic range of exposure and sharpness with my files. I am trying hard to improve, and I would love to hear what you think of on my photographs. I particularly welcome any constructive thoughts/criticisms. Thank you for taking the time to peruse my gallery. |
